Known initially as Broadway Orange County Center, the Anaheim Plaza is the first shopping mall in Orange County. It was considered a regional mall from 1955-1993 and is now an anchored big-box store power center. It is located in Anaheim, known for its convention center, sports teams, and the famous Walt Disney parks.
This mall opened its doors on October 14, 1955, as the original anchor department. The mall shops gradually opened in the following months; the mall was designed by LA architect Walton Becket. The original 208,000 square feet building cost over 8.5 million dollars to build, and it had almost 1,000 employees and a parking lot with 5,000 parking spaces.
In February 1963, J.W. Robinson’s was added to the plaza’s second anchor store. In 1974, the mall went under a $4 million renovation that enclosed the center and renamed it to how we know it nowadays, Anaheim Plaza. Three years later, Mervyn’s was added as Anaheim Plaza’s third anchor store.
The Anaheim Plaza has gone under several renovations and changes; currently (as of 2023) anchor stores include El Super (formerly Gigante and OSH), Petco, Ross, Smart & Final (formerly OfficeMax), TJ Maxx (formerly CompUSA) and Walmart.
The Anaheim plaza is owned/operated by Kimco Realty Corp., one of the USA’s biggest publicly traded operators and owners of open-air shopping centers. This mall is a great shopping destination; its mission is to create the perfect destination for everyday living in Anaheim.
This place features top fashion, lifestyle, and food brands. The Anaheim Plaza offers excellent dining options, whether you want to take a break to recharge after a day of fun shopping or enjoy a meal with your loved ones. You’ll surely find a great dish from Rubio’s Fres Mexican Grill, Happy Dragon, and many more options.
