May Day in Southern California

Also known as International Worker’s Day, May Day is widely celebrated in Southern California. The Anaheim: May Day March & Rally brings together workers throughout the state and country, and is hosted by the Orange County Labor Federation. All events are held on May 1, and offer a chance to be united with union members to fight for fairness, dignity, equality, and respect. The Anaheim event starts at 11 a.m. with a march followed by an informational fair until 4 p.m. at Pearson Park. Meet at the St. Boniface Catholic Church at 120 N. Janss Street.

In nearby Bakersfield, the May Day RESIST March and Rally in downtown kicks off at Mill Creek Park with a march to the Liberty Bell. It all starts at 10 a.m. and ends with an all-day event that’s family friendly. Enjoy cultural activities, food truck vendors, speakers, and live music.

March On

The Fresno May Day March and Protest fights against “oppressive and inhumane measures targeting immigrant families.” The march starts at 3 p.m. at Cedar/Kings Canyon Road and culminates in a peaceful rally at 5 p.m. at the Fresno Courthouse Park, located on the corner of Tulare and Van Ness. At the rally, live music and special speakers take to the stage.

A short drive to Los Angeles brings you to the May 1st “Resist Los Angeles” March and Rally at MacArthur Park. Just west of downtown, events start at 11 a.m. with a march to City Hall. Each year, at least 100,000 attendees flock to downtown Los Angeles to fight for individual and collective rights for the most vulnerable in society.
